The same day; early evening
I chivvy Mr Sagert out of the office at 5.30, as he asked, and then spend a little time finishing up a couple of letters. Lydia mentioned she would be going over to Yorick's; it's just a couple of blocks away and popular with the publishing crowd. It looks just like any other New York bar except for the skull on a shelf behind the bar, which I think is sort of creepy but I guess it's a conversation point. Lydia's not here when I arrive, but I order a San Martin anyway and take a seat at a corner table - I find if I sit at the bar men tend to assume I'm looking for company. Since I'm alone, I take a book out of my purse - we get lots of these for free, so I end up reading quite a few of our novels. This one isn't too shabby. The action's pretty good, and the heroine isn't as useless as they often are.
