Two years later... Spring Break

I've been back in Excolo for less than 36 hours and already I am sick of it. I got back into town yesterday afternoon and found I had a voicemail from my father, demanding that I go to see him. Thereafter followed one of the most excruciating dinners of my life, where he announced that he and my stepmother are having a child (even Adam had the good grace to look embarrassed about that - our parents should be too old to fuck, never mind spawn), and then he decided to berate me for an hour about my "lifestyle choices" and how I should "think seriously" about my future if I wanted him to keep supporting me. It was a barely veiled threat to cut me off, I know. Fucker. My savings accounts are rather healthy, luckily, and I have started doing a little bit of modelling. In fact, I have this month's copy of GQ here to show Tez... I know he will hate what I'm wearing in the shoot, but he was quite sweetly pleased for me when I landed the GQ job. And it gives me an excuse to get out of Princeton regularly and drive to NYC to see him. Although I hate staying at his place. I might rent a place in the city for my weekends there, assuming Tez and I stay together... His apartment is just awful and his housemates are horrendous.

Tonight there's a barbecue-slash-party at the lakeside. A kegger is hardly my idea of fun, but it's a mild evening and there are worse things I can imagine doing than slipping off into the woods with Tez... Besides, I will hopefully be able to catch up with Lily. We actually see a fair amount of each other, with her at Juilliard, but we've both been quite busy lately. And our weekends are usually spent with our respective partners; whilst Tez and Lily seem to tolerate each other these days, they don't exactly like to spend time together, so I try to see them separately.

It's a bring-your-own-booze affair, so I have decided to add some class to this deadbeat occasion by putting a crate of champagne in the back of my car. I check my outfit in the mirror, and add a light jacket in case it gets cooler tonight. I adjust my sunglasses and I drive over to the lake. There is a small sandy beach on the opposite side of the lake to the yacht club. It looks like a few people have already arrived, judging by the smoke and music rising. I leave my car in the small parking lot by the hiking trail, and then walk the hundred metres or so along it to the shorefront. Let's see who is here.
